Diego (3-day class)
We’re a grateful Alumni family of Anchorage Cooperative Preschool. My husband and his brother attended ACP in the 70’s with fantastic teacher Sally! ACP has been wonderful for my son Diego. At the beginning of the term, Diego was shy and needed a long warm-up period before interacting with others. By the middle of the year Diego had blossomed into a social, outgoing and extremely talkative child. This is his second year and he loves attending ACP and even wants to go to school on the weekends. Diego loves to re-enact his ACP play experiences at home including dressing up and singing songs. ACP provides a positive and supportive environment for kids and parents – we love ACP!
Rhys (3-day class)
Our son Rhys loves Anchorage Co-Operative Preschool! He loves teacher Sheila and the great group of “friends” he has gained since attending. We practically have to bribe him to leave at the end of the day and he has grown substantially, emotionally and cognitively, in his two years he has attended.
Rhys has always been the type of kid who was the life of the party when he is around people he was comfortable with but he has been very shy in public settings and around “strangers”. He was very reluctant with the other kids and with the teachers during his first year at ACP. Recently however we have seen that fun, playful kid we see at home, come out at school and in other social settings. We have witnessed first-hand his social skill growth and are grateful to the staff, and volunteers, at Anchorage Co-Operative Preschool for their attention and expertise in the area childhood development.
Lucas (2-day class)
In a few short months I’ve seen Lucas’ imagination and creativity blossom, and his social skills surpass my expectations. Coming into the preschool setting he was shy, standoffish, and merely an observer. Now, he jumps right on into activities and fulfills many dramatic roles. He has become very independent and confident in himself and continuously sings his little heart out. He has formed genuine friendships with his classmates and absolutely adores the teachers. He also interacts well with other students’ parents…an important aspect of a Co-Op. I couldn’t have asked for a better preschool experience for my child! Everyone involved in this organization has had a positive impact on my son and I truly appreciate that.
Kimber (3-day class)
My daughter Kimber was truly enlightened to her artistic side when she joined ACP. She once told me she wanted to be an artist. But being the nervous mom I never let her use scissors or glue at our house before. She couldn’t even write her name when we started at Anchorage Cooperative Preschool.
At the age of 3, it started with simple paintings, several a day. Enough to make several months worth of gift wrap for many preschool friends. The art projects were fun and she wanted to replicate them at home. Making me loosen up on the glue and scissor area.
Last year she branched out and started making letters for all her friends at school. She would come home and make several cards for her “parties” she would hold for her friends. I had several days were I had to spell all their names for her.
Now with all her artistic collaborations she is making pictures of her friends with their names. Daily I find stacks of papers with every kids name in the class on them laying around the house. Kimber is so excited when it’s my day to work in art room. She wants to show off her talents to me! We are blessed with all that ACP has given my child.
Dylan (2-day class)
I am so excited for Dylan to be starting preschool this year. Even as a new family to ACP I felt completely comfortable leaving Dylan on his first day of school During the last few weeks, he has already made huge strides in his learning, verbal and social skills. He loves painting, playing in the sandbox and seeing his friends. I can’t wait to see his growth and development progress this year.
Joshua (3-day class)
Anchorage Cooperative Preschool has been wonderful for my son Joshua! When I brought him with me for the first orientation day, I was still in the process of choosing between preschools, but after that first day, I knew ACP was the right place for us. Joshua immediately warmed up to it. From that day on, he has been excited to come to school and is totally comfortable staying there with out me (this is a first for him)! I also really love the parent involvement aspect of a co-op. I like that the parents are always welcome to be in the classroom, whether it is their work day or not. So if my son is having a bad day and doesn’t want me to leave him, I am welcomed and encouraged to stay with him as long as needed until he feels comfortable and ready.
It is very evident that the teachers are extremely dedicated to what they do and care deeply about the children. The play-based learning environment that they create for the kids fits very well for Joshua. He is able to explore new activities daily in a fun and relaxed environment that nurtures his social, artistic, gross motor, fine motor, and academic skills as well, all while he is playing and having fun!
